Position: Development Associate

Reports to: Director of Development

Location: Hybrid/Flexible - CASA of Los Angeles, Edelman Children’s Court, Monterey Park, CA

Status/Schedule: Full-time/Exempt, Mon – Fri 8AM-5PM, weekend/evening, required in office/field based on organization needs. 

Salary: $67,500.00-$75,000 annually, benefits eligible

Position Overview 

Reporting to the Director of Development, the Development Associate will support the development department, playing a key role in the day-to-day fundraising activities at CASA/LA. This individual will be a detail-oriented, self-directed professional who can work in a fast-paced environment, committed to playing a key role in the fundraising activities at CASA/LA. Key activities will include but are not limited to managing the donor database, donor acknowledgement process, grant research and some level of donor communication. The Development Associate will also play a key role in CASA/LA’s major events, managing preparations for special events as well as fundraising and marketing and communications related activities for the development team.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Fundraising and Development Events

  • Works to acquire new donors and manages DonorPerfect database; keeps in regular contact with donors as needed.
  • Performs basic administrative duties such as managing donation log, processing donations and acknowledgement letters and preparing regular reports on donor activities.
  • Maintains the accuracy and integrity of databases by ensuring that all information is kept current and up to date.
  • Identifies potential donors, through networking, interacting with CASA volunteers and supporters, and donor research.
  • Provides support to key staff during fundraising campaigns and events.
  • Assists with event activities including creating and finalizing guest lists, managing mailing lists and reports, as well as other event logistics by working closely with Special Events Manager.
  • Assist with grant requests, proposals, research and reporting requirements as needed, by working closely with Grants and Foundations Manager.
  • Provides support in public relations and marketing efforts as needed.
  • Assists in scheduling meetings with prospective funders and donors as needed.
  • Attend all CASA/LA events and represent CASA/LA at many community events and other occasions in order to interact with current and potential supporters and to ensure an exceptional donor experience. 
  • Track and monitors donor activities in the DonorPerfect database.
  • Troubleshoots database issues.
  • Completes special projects as assigned and required.

Other Organization-Wide Events

  • Provides support on events for other departments as needed that include, but not limited to, the annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon, annual Volunteer Appreciation Holiday Party.
  • Provides support for Third Party Events as needed.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with and develop relationships with a wide range of individuals. A high level of comfort in reaching out to colleagues and prospects alike to establish and develop relationships.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • Displays exceptional time-management and organizational skills as needed for meeting deadlines.
  • Adaptability, flexibility, and resourcefulness in setting priorities and managing resources in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
  • Ability to accomplish projects with little supervision. Strong project management skills, including exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficient using the latest versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and mail merges; email and web searches.
  • Experience in donor databases a plus (DonorPerfect, Raiser’s Edge, eTapestry)
  • Knowledge in Adobe Creative Suite a plus
  • Commitment to and ability to understand and articulate the mission, programs and activities of CASA/LA. 
  • Some evening and weekend work will be required to successfully meet the job responsibilities. 
  • Possession of a driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle to travel to off-site meetings and events.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in a donor environment and use discretion in responding to inquiries.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check and LiveScan.
  • Preference to have solid relationships in the events and art communities.
  • Preference to have experience with art auctions.

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
  • Able to lift/push/pull 10 pounds.
  • This position requires the ability to work remote, in the office and in the field. 
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position and constantly use a computer which consists of viewing a monitor and using a keyboard.
  • Constantly works in an open office environment in a courthouse where distractions are present, noise levels and air temperatures are fluctuating.
  • Physical requirements include extensive seated work at a computer, standing, bending, reaching, sitting, grasping, fingering, repetitive motion both hands/feet, and walking. Lifting requirement is up to 20 lbs.
